Monggar saw the first ever cycling race on Saturday. Titled Sharchog Khorlo Mountain bike race, it was organised by the Bhutan Olympic Committee in collaboration with the Dzongkhag Sports Association.
Indra Badhur, a Dzongkhag staff, was the winner. He covered 16.1-kilometre distance in 59 minutes and 26 second.
Sherab Zangpo came second, with only 32 seconds behind. The third position, Sonam, completed the race in 1 hour, 7 minutes and 59 seconds. They were awarded a cash prize of Nu. 30,000, Nu. 20,000, and Nu. 10,000 respectively.
A total of 18 participants took part in the race. However, only 12 participants completed the race.
The consolation prizes along with the certificates were awarded to those who completed the race.
The race was organized coinciding with the World Tobacco Free day and was funded by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
