Thinking of foreign markets for Bhutanese products? Here is a piece of good news for Entrepreneurs and Businessmen. The Economic Affairs Ministry launched Bhutan Trade Information Portal today. A gateway to your business journey, the portal will serve as a platform of information for local and foreign entrepreneurs seeking products and companies from Bhutan.

The portal can be accessed from www.bhutantradeportal.bt. For the user, the portal contents are organised in two main modules, “Export from Bhutan” and “Buy from Bhutan”. Export from Bhutan is targeted to local entrepreneurs interested in foreign markets and it contains a search functionality that provides information on a product or market. Buy from Bhutan on the other hand is targeted to foreign entrepreneurs interested in Bhutanese companies and products.

This electronic platform brings together all trade-related information including price and latest global trends for the conducts of trade.

“I am confident that this will have clarity, transparency and fast information to people who would like to do business with Bhutan as well as Bhutanese traders who would like to send their products outside,” said Loknath Sharma, the Economic Affairs Minister.

With this electronic platform, businesses will also be able to stay updated with the latest trade regulations including trade agreements, export procedures and market access requirements that have to be met for engaging in international trade.

“The lack of transparency and predictability of domestic trade regulation has always been one of the major obstacles. As is the case elsewhere, unless we come up with the platform to create awareness about our trade rules and regulations and procedures, potential foreign business partners will show no interest or it will be very difficult for our people to convince and build business relation with international trade partners,” Lyonpo added.

With contact details of potential buyers and of local export-related service providers now just a click away, the portal is expected to help expand business networks.
