Ever since the construction of Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project’s permanent residential began, villagers of Dangdung in Langthel Gewog under Trongsa have been facing acute shortage of drinking water.
Dangdung village has about 50 households. The village and the project share the same source. But now, the villagers say, the source has fallen into the project’s site.
The Langthel Gup, Lam Dorji, said the water source will be taken back once the project is complete. “They have constructed road from both the sides and labour camp near the source which are causing insufficient drinking water.”

The Project Authority’s Chief Engineer P C Paul said temporary arrangement is already underway. “…we have found the alternative of constructing temporary pipelines which has been sanctioned.”
However, he said the permanent arrangement will be made only after the completion of construction.
The construction works of the Project’s permanent residential colony will complete by mid 2013.
