A 55- year-old man from Zhemgang succumbed to injuries after he was hit on the head by a falling branch near Bhutan Gate in Gelegphu, on Monday.
The incident occurred while the NRDCL workers were chopping off the overgrown branches that posed threat to the vehicles plying on the highway.
According to a witness, the deceased paid no heed to the warnings even when they tried to stop him.
Although the movement of vehicles and people were restricted at the site at that time, the deceased ran in to help. That was when the branch that was tied to a truck, to avoid it from falling on a house, hit him on the head.
The man was immediately taken to the hospital. He succumbed to the injuries in the evening.
The deceased is survived by wife and five children.
