The new state-owned enterprise, Royal Bhutan Lottery Limited based in Phuentshogling, will start operating lottery business from tomorrow.
The previous government had closed the lottery business in 2011 due to some legal issues while trading lottery outside the country.
Finance minister, Namgay Dorji said even though lottery is as good as gambling, it has generated revenues for many countries.
“It will cash in good amount of rupees as the country collaborates with India for the lottery business,” said Lyonpo.
Lottery business had generated around Rs 220 M annually prior to its closure.
Lyonpo Namgay Dorji also said the lottery business will create employment opportunities for Bhutanese.
The present government, during its 2013 elections, had pledged to restart lottery business.
