Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde has plans to carry out maintenance and resurfacing along several stretches of its internal roads and highway. It has been years since no major maintenance was carried out on those stretches. This has been posing challenges to the commuters.
About one-and-a-half-kilometre road at the automobile workshop area is filled with puddles. The stretch has been in this condition for more than five years. This has caused inconveniences for both the automobile workshop owners and customers.
And the other one-and-a-half-kilometre internal road at LAP 4 in Samdrup Jongkhar Toed has not been blacktopped. The road was constructed some eight years ago.
The eight-kilometre stretch at Dewathang along Samdrup Jongkhar- Trashigang Highway which falls under Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde’s jurisdiction is also in dire need of resurfacing. Hundreds of vehicles ply along the highway every day.
“The stretch at the automobile workshop area is not in good condition. It is not blacktopped. So, it is inconvenient. Moreover, it is inappropriate to have such roads in the thromde area,” said Choezang, a resident.
“It is important to blacktop the road here. New constructions are coming up. There are a few restaurants here so, it does not look nice to the visitors because of the dust,” said Tshewang, Samdrup Jongkhar Toed Tshogpa.
The Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde administration could not carry out resurfacing at the automobile workshop area due to budget constraints.
However, the thromde administration has carried out minor maintenance.
Now, the thromde administration has plans to lay a paver block with a proposed budget of more than six million ngultrum in upcoming financial year.
For the internal road in Samdrup Jongkhar Toed and the road between Samdrup Jongkhar-Trashigang Highway falling under the thromde’s administration, it has proposed maintenance budget in the upcoming financial year.
That includes blacktopping, installation of streetlights and resurfacing. It is expected to cost Nu 80 M in total.
