HMK4-60thBirthdayAnniversary-LogoA green dragon with a sheep horn and four national flag coloured jewels and a golden khorlo clasped in its claws is the Logo for the celebration of the 60th birth anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.

Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay launched the Logo in Thimphu, yesterday.

A Senior Programme Officer with the Department of Local Governance of the Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs, Kinzang Tshering, is the artist of the logo.

Artist Kinzang Tshering says it took him about a month to conceive, design and paint the logo.

The green dragon represents the strong personality of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, who was throughout his golden rule, has spearheaded environmental conservation in the country that earned His Majesty international fame and recognition.

The green colour also represents His Majesty’s selfless service to the Nation and the people of Bhutan as an ultimate Commander-in-chief of the arm force in ensuring peace and security in the country.

And the sheep horn on dragon head depicts the birth sign of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo- the Female Wood Sheep Year.

The four national flag coloured jewels clasped in the claws of dragon represents the four pillars of Gross National Happiness (GNH) that have been instrumental in guiding Bhutan’s socio-economic development under the wise and farsighted leadership of the His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo. This also represents His Majesty as the profounder and custodian of the GNH.

The golden Khorlo depicts that while pursing country’s development processes, His Majesty also ensured that Buddhism as a state religion was never left behind.

The Dragon and Khorlo together resembles like a figure 60 both in dzongkha and English depicting His Majesty’s 60 birth anniversary.
