People of Gashari in Pema Gatshel spend most part of the year in their fields, which are located quite far from the village at Tadzong. Working on the farmlands there, they have to make do by living in temporary huts. So, the farmers say, life would be less troubled if Tadzong receives a power connection.
Tadzong received a water supply recently and it already has an access road. Next on the people’s wishlist is just an electricity supply. There are around 10 temporary sheds in Tadzong.
“We will remain grateful if we have an electricity supply. Today, we use kerosene lamps for lighting and firewood to prepare food. It is difficult doing so considering the hot climate here,” Mendrel Zangmo said.
“Life will be much with electricity,” Chimi said.
It takes more than two hours to reach Tadzong from Gashari. So, some farmers are even considering settling at Tadzong if the place is connected to an electricity grid. They can use electric fencing as well.
The Gashari tshogpa said he will soon submit an application to the Bhutan Power Corporation’s office in Nganglam requesting for the power supply.
Today, more than 30 households of Gashari own lands at Tadzong.
