Local industries in the country contributed more revenue to the economy than the hydropower sector last year. While industries earned Nu 15 B, total hydropower revenue was Nu 12 B.
Industrial revenue constitutes money from the sale of industrial produce. According to Bhutan Trade Statistics, they include Ferro Silicon, Cement, Calcium Carbide, Dolomite and Silicon.
Industrialists said, industries add more value to the economy than the hydropower sector. They said, these findings were also submitted to the government while requesting not to revise electricity tariff for the industries.
In an earlier interview, the General Secretary of the Industrialists Association of Bhutan, Jochu Thinley said it made more economic sense to sell subsidized power to the local industries than sell it to India directly.
