Lingzhi and Soe request for experienced health workersPeople of Lingzhi and Soe Gewogs under Thimphu Dzongkhag have requested for experienced health workers in their Basic Health Unit so that they need not have to walk four days to the capital’s hospital to avail medical care.

They submitted their proposals to Thimphu Dzongkhag Tshogdu, yesterday.

“At times, pregnant women are referred to the Thimphu hospital two months before the due date and sometimes, the referrals are suggested on wrong time and women give birth on the way before reaching capital,” said Lingzhi Gup, Wangdi.

Soe Gup, Kencho Dorji said people in his gewog have repeatedly asked for an additional health worker in their BHU. He said the only health worker of their gewog has to visit Thimphu for official work constantly and the BHU has to be closed during his absence.

“I cannot promise the exact date but we will put the requirement to the health ministry when graduates from RIHS pass out in July,” said the Dzongkhag Health Officer, Gyembo Dorji.

As for Soe Gewog, health workers from neighbouring BHUs will be sent to the gewog to fill in the present health staff’s absence.
