The Indian Ambassador to Bhutan, Gautam Bambawale, handed over three cheques amounting to about Nu.1.2 BN, to the Finance Minister, Namgay Dorji.
The amount represents the first tranche for the three projects launched by the president of India, Pranab Mukherjee, who is in the country.
The three projects is the part of Government of India’s grant to Bhutan for its 11th Five Year Plan.
Up-gradation of the East-West Highway is one of three projects with the budget Nu. 4,636.566 MN. The first tranche covers Nu. 405.503 MN.
For the School Reform Programme the approved amount is Nu. 3,487.2 MN of which Nu. 868.87 MN is covered by the first tranche.
The tranche also covers Nu. 15.04 MN of Nu. 337 MN for the third project, Power Training Institute.
