Illegal structures constructed on government land within Thimphu Thromde will be demolished. The municipality is waiting for the land ownership certificates from the land commission. The National Land Commission is processing about 400 lagthram at the moment.
Thimphu Thromde’s Executive Secretary, Pasang Dorji said in most cases the land owner or building owners are cooperative. He said they respect the notice they send.
“They know that they are not allowed so they demolish. But in few cases people are tough. So in such cases we have no option but to send our demolishing squad and remove the structure.”
The owners of illegal structures, located in the core town area, Hejo and Changzamtog, have been notified.
“Some of the structures were built by their great grandparents and they have been occupying and using these structures.”
Pasang Dorji said it became clear to them only after the survey that the land does not belong to them.
“It becomes unintentional illegal structures. Once the lagthram is issued we verify the cases and then ask then to remove or we go to remove them.”
From 2010 till last year, the thromde demolished 51 illegal structures constructed on the government land.
