The Divisional Forest Office in Paro seized yet another illegal sandalwood consignment yesterday.
The suspect was caught red-handed from his house in Tsento Gewog at around 4 pm. He was caught with 19 pieces of sandalwood weighing about 285 kilogrammes. The officials say the sandalwood was worth Nu. 200,000.
The wood, which is not available in Bhutan, was brought in from India and was to be exported to China.
The suspect would be fined over Nu. 750 per kilogramme of the total. This is the second such case reported in Paro this year.
