In a ceremony held at the Tendrelthang on 22nd March, His Majesty The King presented the Order of the Druk Gyalpo, Bhutan’s highest civilian award, to Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India.
Presenting the medal, which was conferred to the Prime Minister of India on National Day in 2021, His Majesty The King said that Prime Minister Modi is an exceptional leader and a true friend of Bhutan.
Prime Minister Modi, accepting the award, said that it is a unique honour to be recognised in such a manner by another nation, and shows that Bhutan – India relations are destined to flourish.
The ceremony to present the Order of Druk Gyalpo was graced by His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen and Royal Family Members. The Prime Minister, senior officials and guests, which included thousands of students took part in the event.
An entertainment program showcasing Bhutan’s cultural heritage, along with special performances in Hindi and Gujarati in honour of the Indian Prime Minister, was presented at the event.
Before attending the award ceremony, His Majesty The King granted an Audience to India’s Prime Minister, His Excellency Shri Narendra Modi at the Tashichhodzong.
Prime Minister Modi, who is on a two-day State Visit to Bhutan, was escorted in a Chipdrel procession to the Dzong, and presented a guard of honour by the Armed Forces and DeSuung contingent, before receiving an Audience with His Majesty.
