His Majesty The King graced the closing ceremony of the sixth session of the third parliament today. During the ceremony, the parliamentarians offered Zhabten for His Majesty’s Longevity, members of the Royal Family, and for the peace and prosperity of the country. The sixth session of the third parliament began on the 24th of last month.
On behalf of the parliamentarians and the people of Bhutan, Speaker of the National Assembly, Chairperson of the National Council, Health Minister, and the Opposition Leader thanked His Majesty for keeping Bhutan and its people safe from the pandemic. While the world still battles the pandemic, Bhutan has been able to protect itself from the devastation under the dynamic leadership of His Majesty The King.
The representatives also expressed their gratitude for His Majesty’s unprecedented initiatives such as the Dessung National Service Water Project, Dessung National Service Road Project, Desuung Re-skilling Programmes, and initiating various training opportunities for those laid off by the pandemic and unemployed youth.
They also thanked His Majesty for providing the much-needed guidance during His Majesty’s address to the nation on the 114th National Day.
Meanwhile, during the month-long session of the parliament, the National Assembly adopted the Framework Agreement on the establishment of the International Solar Alliance, Fiscal Incentives Bill of Bhutan 2021, the Customs Duty (Amendment) Bill of Bhutan 2021, the Tax Bill of Bhutan 2021 and the Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill of Bhutan 2021.
The House also adopted the Biodiversity Bill of Bhutan 2021, the Civil Society Organization (Amendment) Bill of Bhutan 2021, and the Royal Bhutan Police (Amendment) Bill 2021.
The National Assembly also re-deliberated on United Nations Convention against Corruption (Amendment) and Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Bill 2021 and deliberated on the Forest and Nature Conservation Bill of Bhutan 2021.
And the National Council deliberated on Ratification of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC), the Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Bill of Bhutan 2021, Fiscal Incentive (FI) Act of Bhutan 2021, Review Report on Drafting a Civil Liability Bill, Review Report on Mental Health Issues and Suicide in Bhutan among others.
The joint sitting deliberated on the Review Report on Annual Audit Report 2020 along with the two Performance Audit Report of the Public Accounts Committee.
