His Majesty the King awarded Druk Thuksey Medal to Dr.Arthit Ourairat, Drungtsho Sherab Jorden, Lopen Ngapchi, and former Yangpai Lopen, Bosokarbo, during the National Day celebration in Paro, today.
Dr.Arthit, 77, is the president of the Rangsit University in Thailand. Earlier, he served as foreign minister, health minister and Thai Minister of science, technology and environment. Currently, he is serving as the member of the parliament. He was also awarded several prestigious awards by the King of Thailand.
He has offered around 150 scholarships to Bhutanese to pursue masters and Bachelor of Arts at Thailand’s Rangsit University.
Drungtsho Sherab Jorden, 80, is a retired doctor of traditional medicine. He went to study medicine in Chag-puri in Tibet when he was only 17.
Upon the command of the late Third Druk Gyalpo, Dungtsho Sherab and Dungtsho Pem dorji established a traditional medicine hospital in Dechencholing in 1967.
After retiring in 1997, he stays at Hungtsho helping old age people through traditional medicine and meditation.
Lopen Ngapchi, 88, enrolled in Trongsa Rabdey at the age of 7. He has served the country from the Second Durk Gyalpo’s reign till now.
Former Yangpai Lopen, Bosokarbo, 88, started his education at the age of 7 from Pungthim Dratshang. He served as Yangpai Lopen for three years. Currently, he meditates and practices Dharma at Phajoding.
