High Quality United FC is through to the finals of the second edition of the Bhutan Super League 2020 after defeating Tensung FC 3-1 last week.
Eight teams from Thimphu, Paro, Punakha and Phuentshogling took part in the country’s second division league that began on February 6.
The top two in the league point table, High Quality United FC and Tensung FC have automatically qualified for the semi-final playoffs. In the first semi-final match played on Saturday last week, High Quality United FC came back from behind to defeat Tensung FC 3-1.
However, considering the recent amendment in the qualification system the Bhutan Football Federation made in 2018, Tensung FC will get another shot to still qualify for the finals despite playing and losing in the first semi-final match. This is to acknowledge the hard work and achievement of earning the top two spots of the league table.
Meanwhile, eying a spot in the second semi-final match, the third and fourth positioned team, Druk Star FC and Paro United FC came head to head against each other at the Changlimithang National Stadium yesterday. The match saw Paro United FC booking their spot in the second semi-final as they defeated Druk Stars FC 1-0.
With the result, Paro United FC will now face Tensung FC in the second semi-final match which will be played tomorrow at Changlimithang. The final of the Bhutan Super League 2020 is scheduled to be played on Saturday this weekend.
For now, securing the top five spot in the Bhutan Super League 2020 point table, High Quality United FC, Tensung FC, Paro United FC, Druk Star FC and BFF Academy U-17 team have qualified for the Bhutan Premier League, the country’s top domestic league. On the other hand, the bottom three teams are relegated to the Dzongkhag League.
