Her Majesty Queen Mother Tshering Yangdoen Wangchuck and His Royal Highness Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel graced the ceremony to install the Sertog on the Utse of the Chari Monastery this morning.
The ceremony held to install the sertog was led by the Dorji Lopen, along with senior monks from the clergy.
Early this morning, the sacred relics of Chari were moved into the new Goenkhang. Her Majesty the Queen Mother and His Royal Highness The Gyalsey offered prayers and butter lamps. Representatives of the clergy offered Kusung Thukten.
Chari Dorjeden Monastery, which was built by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel in 1620, is an important seat of the Drukpa Kagyud and of immense historical and cultural importance to Bhutan.
Major restoration works of the Chari Goenpa are being carried out and overseen by the Department of Culture and Dzongkha Development. The works include fortifying the surroundings and improving safety and access to the 400-year-old monastery.
