Continuous rainfall in Gelephu has further worsened the road condition at the box cutting area along the Zhemgang-Gelephu Highway. There has been no vehicle movement in the past few days.
About 500 metres of the road has been washed away by a landslide. Our Gelephu Bureau correspondent, Eshori Gurung, said they could feel the road below them sinking when they were filming a television report at the site. Labourers working at the site said it is risky for them to work as boulders keep falling every now and then.
Kharka Singh Mongar, a manual worker, said they work hard to clear the blocks but it is same the next day. “Rainfall at night cause landslides,” he said.
Machineries have been deployed at the site to clear the blocks. The Department of Roads say additional machineries will be deployed once the rain stops.
