The regional office of the Department of Geology and Mines in Khasadrapchu, Thimphu, received two written complaints and some verbal allegations stating that another blast in Gidaphu stone quarry last Monday, has further damaged their houses.
The incident occurred after the Department of Geology and Mines (DGM) lifted the suspension order of the blasting in the mines on July 30.
Following the complaints, the officials from the DGM regional office in Khasdrapchu are now carrying out an investigation.
Meanwhile, the regional coordinator, Ugyen Dorji said, the office was instructed to lift the suspension after the investigation on earlier allegation on July 12 blasting was proved baseless.
On the contrary, the residents say they were not even aware of the blast suspension being lifted. This, they said, was inappropriate.
However, the regional coordinator said, he didn’t receive any orders to inform the people.
Amidst this confusion, it is the residents who are left at their wits’ end.
For now, the Department of Geology and Mines is expected to carry out technical investigation if the cracks were caused by the blasting or not.
