Construction of the Regional Hospital in Gelephu is expected to begin from October this year. According to the Health Minister, Zangley Dukpa, works are already in progress.
The Gelephu MP, Prem Kumar Gurung had asked the Health Minister on the status of the construction of 150 bedded regional hospital in Gelephu during the National Assembly’s Question Hour, yesterday. He said with the current capacity of only 66 beds, the present Gelephu Hospital is facing inconveniences. “The plan to construct the hospital is in 10th Five year plan. But the construction is yet to begin. When is the target year for the completion of the hospital,” he asked.
He also added that the present hospital is seeing an increasing number of patients including the expatriate workers.
Lyonpo Zangley Dukpa said the current site which is hospital’s land is occupied by Royal Bhutan Army. The RBA will be relocating within next three months. “The drawings and designs of the Hospital are being consulted with the experts from both within and outside the country.”
He added that the Thimphu Hospital has been facing a lot of inconveniences. “To prevent similar inconveniences, we are consulting the experts,” he said, adding, the process is delaying the construction.
