Gelephu has a huge potential of becoming economic zone in future. The Economic Affairs Minister, Khando Wangchuk, said this during his recent visit to the industrial estate in Gelephu.

With the upcoming airport, and hydropower projects like Mangdechu, Punatsangchu and Chamkharchu, Economic Affairs Minister said Gelephu would certainly become a gateway, making it another economic and commercial hub.

“We are planning to transport raw materials for Mangdechu, Chamkharchu and Punatsangchu hydroelectric projects from gelephu. Once the Dungsam Cement Project will start producing cement, transportation of the cement will be done through Gelephu to other regions,” said Lyonpo Khandu Wangchuk.

During the two-day visit, Lyonpo met with the business community of Gelephu, and discussed about rupee crunch issue in the country. Lyonpo also highlighted the business prospects of businessmen in Gelephu.

“It is a crucial time for the businessman to prepare business plan. Opportunity has reached our doorstep to boost the economic development,” added the Lyonpo.

Lyonpo also visited the newly inaugurated Bhutan Centennial Distillery at Bhur and Gelephu domestic airport construction site.

Lyonpo was accompanied by the Members of the Parliament of Sarpang, Dzongkhag officials, local leaders and thromde officials.
