Teachers and students of Gasa Primary School, one of the remote schools in the country, now have access to internet. Our reporter, Kuenzang Thinley, who visited the school says the introduction of internet has brought many benefits.
The school has been provided with 15 used desktop computers, all connected to internet. The computers were donated by different ministries and organisations.
“Everything can be found on the web including subject related information,” said one of the students, while another said: “We can find meaning of every word on the internet.”
The School’s Principal, Pema Dorji, said the school decided to introduce internet given the multiple benefits it would bring for the students. “Like the children studying in in urban schools, we wanted our students to have easy access to internet and reap its benefits.”
Some of the teachers said internet is helping teaching and learning process in many ways. “Internet is helping us teach better. Apart from what is in the textbooks, we are able to browse more information and share it with the students,” said Karma Wangdi, a Teacher.
Gasa Primary School has 103 students and 10 teachers.
