The forest Fire in Wangdue Phodrang has been contained, earlier today. Over 11,000 acres of forest is said to have been destroyed by the fire which raged for six days. Rainfall in the afternoon today helped contained the fire.
The broke out last Thursday from Phangyuel Gewog.
The fire also destroyed part of Chungdu Goenpa last Friday. A monk’s hostel and the Lam’s residence have been gutted. Historical documents were also lost to the fire.
The forest fire also burnt down a two-storied traditional house.
