A forest fire in Haa, which started last Friday, was finally contained, yesterday. A fire-fighting team of 80 people including army personnel, forest officials, and locals brought the fire under control at about 10am.
According to the District Forestry Officer, more than 300 acres of forests and pasture land have been damaged by the fire. The fire is suspected to have started in Bji Gewog and that it could have been caused by a camp fire lit by yak herders.
This is the third forest fire in Haa, this winter.
