The process of supplying electricity to Laya has been slow. Complaints were made on this during the 4th Gasa Dzongkhag Tshogdu on November 4.
Disappointment was expressed over the manner in which electrical works were being carried out at the Dzongkhag Tshogdu. “The government has issued the materials but all electrical equipments are just lying abandoned on the ground. We are not happy about the slow progress of work,” said Laya’s Gup, Kinley Dorji.
The Gasa Dzongda, Sonam Jigme, defended the progress of work saying weather conditions hampered its pace. He shared that it would not be possible to connect Laya with electricity, this year.
“Due to the weather, and geographical conditions, the progress of work has been slow. There are no Bhutanese labourers so we have to rely on Indian labourers. Work is therefore suspended when it gets very cold,” said the dzongda.
It appears that Laya has no choice, but to wait a little longer. Other developmental activities in Gasa under the 11th Five Year Plan were discussed at the Dzongkhag Tshogdu as well.
