Hundreds and thousands of acres of the forest are lost to forest fire every winter. And the dry season is here again threatening the forest and wildlife. The first forest fire of the season is reported on November 14 in Chhubu Gewog of Punakha.
According to forest officials, around 300 – 400 acres of the forest is lost to the fire in just two days. Forestry officials, DeSuups and volunteers are battling the fire which is still raging. Officials say the cause of the fire is yet to be known and is under investigation.
