Except for the former Chhoekhor Gup, all three former Gups in Bumthang have been nominated during the recent Dhamngoi Zomdu. In total, there are ten gup candidates in Bumthang.
Tang Gewog has the highest number of gup candidates at four. The remaining three gewogs have two candidates each. Six gup candidates have a bachelor’s degree.
Meanwhile, 11 men are vying for the post of Mangmi. The only female nominee for Mangmi could not make it through the selection procedure.
And there are 35 Tshogpa candidates for the 20 chiwogs, nine are women.
Meanwhile, a university graduate will contest against the former Thromde Ngotshab to represent Bumthang town.
Only about 25 per cent of the registered voters took part in the Dhamngoi Zomdu. There are more than 10,000 registered voters in Bumthang.
