Fewer women turn up for functional literacy testIn the second round of Functional Literacy and Possession of Skills Test conducted by the Election Commission of Bhutan in Sarpang, only seven were women of the 33.

The test, which is mandatory, is for the upcoming Local Government Elections.

The first round, conducted in April, this year saw better women participants with 74 against 193 male participants.

“Government has given equal rights for men and women and I wish to make it reality,” said one of the LG aspirants, Yangchen Dema, 27.

She is contesting for the post of Tshogpa this election and would like to contest for the post of Gup in next election after gaining experience.

A total of 300 people appeared for the Functional Literacy and Possession of Skills Test for the upcoming Local Government Elections from Sarpang.

A little more than 250 could make it through the test.
