The Ophthalmologist team performed 27 cataract and 11 Pterygium surgeries in Punakha. An eye specialist from Thimphu Referral Hospital was leading the team during the six-day eye camp.
Doctors say, cataract is a common cause of blindness among older people and can be surgically repaired. The team is targeting older people, who would otherwise have no access to surgery because of ignorance, they say.
More than 500 people, from as far as Gasa and Saephu under Wangdue Phodrang, came for the treatment.
