Despite government’s attempt to reduce the economy’s indebtedness, Bhutan’s total public debt has been steadily increasing reaching US$ 1.8 B or Nu 117 B by March this year.
Over 70 percent of the economy’s external debt is in the form of Indian rupee and convertible currency loan was recorded at US$ 574 M or Nu 37 B. Bhutan’s total debt still remains higher than the size of its economy.
The economy’s reserve in the form of Indian rupee was recorded at 10.8B while convertible currency reserve stood at 788 M or Nu 51 B.
