People travelling along the Wangdue-Trongsa highway will no longer have to worry about roadblocks at Chhuserbhu in Trongsa. The Department of Roads has deployed two excavators until the debris from the recent landslides is cleared.
The first landslide a week ago buried 100 metres of the highway at Chhuserbu. The block led to traffic closure between Wangdue and Trongsa for two days. Debris from the second landslide on Thursday stretch almost 150 meters, clogging a stream and flooding a stone quarry nearby.
“A small tremor is enough to trigger a landslide. I doubt the recent earthquakes destabilized the site, triggering the landslides” said Karma Tenzin, the Department of Roads’ chief engineer in Lobesa, Punakha.
The chief engineer also added the Chhuserbhu site is likely to remain similar to Reotala and Ossay block sites. However, the two excavators will clear the debris as and when the landslides occur.
The stretch of road at Chhuserbhu is expected to be better by winter. Chhuserbu is 44 kilometres away from Trongsa towards Wangdue.
