WasteMgt-ThimphuDTWaste management is becoming increasingly difficult not only in the city but even in many gewogs under Thimphu Dzongkhag.

During the Thimphu Dzongkhag Tshogdu, Gups expressed a need for a garbage collector truck to tackle the growing waste problem.

Gups said they had requested for a garbage collector truck for the gewogs in the last Tshogdu, but nothing has been done so far.

“We are doing as much as we can to manage waste as per the Local Government Act. Owing its proximity to the city, Dagala Gewog is experiencing more problems. People dump their wastes everywhere,” Darkarla Gup, Gado says.

Some of the Gups said, this wasn’t the first time the issue was raised in the Tshogdu. They said, earlier they were informed that there is budget to procure a garbage truck.

However, the District Engineer, Karma Jamtsho said, the Dzongkhag has not been able to procure one due to budget constrain:

“After the budget by the GNHC was disapproved, we have now put up a proposal to Bhutan Trust Fund, and we are still waiting for an answer. We are hopeful that it would be approved.”
