The preparation to dispatch postal ballots for the facilitation booths is in full swing at the Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) office in Thimphu. The commission will dispatch the ballots on October 5.
More than 100,000 postal ballots will be dispatched for the facilitation booths for the general round of the election, which is around 76 per cent of the total 134,005 registered postal voters.
The ECB had already dispatched over 3000 ballots for overseas postal voters, 12,000 for armed force personnel and around 15,000 for those who opted for conventional postal ballots.
The facilitation booths will open from October 10 to 12. The booths will remain open from 9 am to 7 pm.
A news release from the ECB says the commission has made 2055 changes to postal ballot registration till September 24. Of the total, 963 deregistered as postal voters to vote in person at the polling stations. And more than 1000 changed the postal ballot option- from conventional to facilitation booths or vice versa, some updated their postal addresses.
For the primary round 23,257 of the total 133,795 registered postal voters did not turn up at the facilitation booths, some did not return their postal ballots or posted their ballot too late to the Returning Officers.
As per ECB, Bhutan Post received 170 postal ballots after the primary round poll day.
The poll day for the general round is on October 18.
