Taking Bhutan to the Oscars, Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom made history for being the first-ever Bhutanese film to win a nomination for an Oscar. Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom is one of five films nominated for the Best International Feature Category. But ‘Drive My Car’, a Japanese feature film, won the award at the 94th Academy Awards earlier today.

Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering congratulated the filmmaker, Pawo Choyning Dorji, through the official Facebook Page of the Prime Minister’s Office. The post states irrespective of the outcome, this is the beginning of many new exciting ventures and that the filmmaker has inspired many storytellers in Bhutan and beyond.
