Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) has put a complaint letter to the Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) saying that ECB must enquire as to why People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) were engaged in negotiations for several days, if coalition was not the reason.
“What was the subject of the negotiations? Why was it that despite claims that it was left up to the individuals to decide which party to join, that the numbers and identity of DNT candidates, who would be joining PDP, appear in public domain?”
The letter says DPT has reasons to believe that the subject of the extended discussion was the conditions for their merger. “If this is true, then it establishes very clearly the evidence of coalition which merits the serious consideration of ECB.”
It also says DPT has concerns on the fact that seven DNT members joining PDP have not joined as individuals after resigning from the Party but that they were traded in by a Party as a group.
“Even though DNT members may fulfill the formality of resigning from the Party, the question of their loyalty to PDP is a serious doubt.”
