To create awareness among local leaders and institution heads on the importance of controlling the stray dog population and to garner support from communities during the implementation of the upcoming dog population management programme through Catch-Neuter-Vaccinate-Release (CNVR) protocol, a daylong consultative meeting was held in Trashigang Dzongkhag yesterday.
Led by the National Centre for Animal Health (NCAH), the Regional Livestock Development Centre, Kanglung, and the Dzongkhag livestock sector, a pre-campaign survey to identify the number of dogs that need to be sterilised was completed last month. The survey identified 3,092 dogs to be sterilised in the Dzongkhag. The team plans to implement the CNVR programme from the last week of April to the end of May 2021.
The consultative meeting was organised by the NCAH under the Department of Livestock in collaboration with the Regional Livestock Development Centre, Kanglung, and Dzongkhag Administration, Trashigang.
