People of Logchhina Gewog under Chhukha Dzongkhag are all smiles these days as their Gewog was connected with electricity last Thursday. Their days of waiting is finally over.
Since the electrification works began in April last year, they were eagerly looking forward to this day. Gaining access to electricity means an end to many of their problems.
“We have to go to Phuentsholing to get kerosene. At times we get but sometimes when we don’t; it was just a waste of money and time,” said one of elated residents.
Along with access to electricity, villagers were also made aware of electricity safety measures by officials from Bhutan Power Corporation.
The geog already have basic amenities like farm roads, three schools including a lower secondary school and a Basic Health Unit.
“When we didn’t have electricity, for some villagers, they had to walk for almost a day to get firewood. But from today, they don’t have to look for firewood. This will also ease pressure on the environment,” said Indra lal Ghalley, Logchhina Gup.
For now, 258 households of six Chiwogs under the Gewog have electricity. For the rest five, works will be complete by this month. The project costs more than Nu. 22 million.
With this, the BPC has achieved 85 percent of the Rural Electrification Project in Chhukha Dzongkhag.
