The Dzongkhalum Bridge in Trongsa which was damaged earlier this month, after a trailer carrying a crane plied over the bridge has been restored. The traffic for the light vehicles opened on Sunday.
The new bridge which is built on top of old one is not yet ready for heavy vehicles. It is expected to take another few weeks.
The bridge located about 11 km from Trongsa towards Zhemgang was built in 1970s. The initial capacity of the bridge was 40 metric tons. It was later reduced to 18.
The new Bailey bridge can stand up to 40 metric tons once the concrete is fully set. Road officials said that this is a temporary bridge. A permanent bridge will be constructed downstream.
