The construction of motorable bridge over Mangdechhu was supposed to have been completed by this year. However, given the budget constraints, it will take a few months more, before the project sees its completion.
In the meantime, people of Nabji, Korphu and Nyimzhong villages of Korphu Gewog in Trongsa, will have to keep walking 10 hours every time they come to Wangdigang, where they usually buy essentials. Even the 20-kilometre road across the river, towards the Korphu Gewog centre, serves no purpose without the bridge.
“We have to carry everything from Wangdigang using horses. It is very expensive and tiring,” said Tshering Lhamo of Nabi.
After the construction of the bridge is complete, it will take about just an hour drive from the three villages to reach Wangdigang.
