Mangdechhu Hydro-power project has come as a boon to the people of Trongsa Dzongkhag. Started in 2010, the project today has given economic boost to the people in the area.

It is a time for the people to make money. Many people are building houses to cater to the housing needs of projects employees. From Trongsa, all the way to Sirthela in Langthel Gewog people are busy. Ugyen is one of them. He is constructing a house, solely to rent it out the employees of the Mangdechhu Project.

“Later on even if we get loans, paying them back will be difficult. That’s why this is the right time to construct. It will be good for my children to have a house as well. I can pay-off the loan that way. Once the project is over and the employees go back I can live here with my family,” he shares his plans.

Ugyen took a loan from the Bhutan Development Bank. The house will cost roughly about Nu. one million. There are many other houses coming up as one drives along the road through Trongsa Dzongkhag. Most are linked with the Mangdechhu Project.

A supervisor of the another construction site said that they were building it for the project. “If the project isn’t there then we won’t have any tenants. If you build a house and there are no tenants then it’s no use.”

Everyone seemed to have the same thoughts, to give their houses for rent, in order to make a little more money at the end of the month.
