A team from the Central Bank will leave for India next week to discuss on the issue of rupee shortage in the country. They will meet with the governor of the Reserve Bank of India and request for fresh supply of Indian Rupee notes at the earliest.
At present, hundreds of people continue to visit the central bank in the capital every day to exchange Indian Rupees but most of them return disappointed.
The Governor of Royal Monetary Authority Dasho Penjore said the delegation will request for 250 M Indian Rupee for the weekly need. “If this cannot be met through 100 rupee notes, we will request a combination of 100 rupee notes and the new 500 and 2,000 rupee notes,”
The Governor added the rupee reserve at the central bank today is one of the highest in the reserve so far.
“In the last ten to fifteen years I think this is the first time that the country has build Indian rupee reserve of 30 B. So it gives lots of confidence that there is enough Indian rupee reserves to give to the people”. But the Governor said the demonetisation of the 500 and 1,000 rupee notes has lead to the shortage of 100 rupee notes.
So far the central bank has disbursed 100 rupee notes amounting to 35 million. The bank collected around 1.68 B rupees since the demonetization last month.
