A 37-year-old businesswoman in Gelegphu, who was accused of breaching mandatory quarantine protocol submitted her rebuttal statement to the Umling Dungkhag Court today. During the hearing, she stated that she travelled to Thimphu only after she had a COVID-19 test which was negative and after obtaining an emergency route permit from the officials.
She asserted that if she is alleged of breaching the protocols, the Court should also summon officials concerned who provided her with the travel documents. She requested the court to summon the officials.
The court decided to conduct an independent hearing for the concerned officials on Wednesday.
On November 6 last year, the businesswoman travelled to Thimphu from Gelegphu without undergoing the seven-day mandatory quarantine while travelling to the low-risk area from high-risk area. According to sources, the woman was quarantined on 8th November in Thimphu, after officials found that she did not obtain the permit from the Dzongkhag Incident Commander Secretariat.
Gelegphu Police then detained her on 26th November last year. The case was forwarded to the court the next day.
