The business is slowly picking up at Sheychamthang, the new Sarpang town after more than a year of developing the area. Today, the town has all the basic infrastructure in place. Sarpang district began developing the new town at Sheychamthang after the old town along the Gelegphu-Tsirang highway was washed away by a flash flood in 2016.
One of the most important facilities is the internal road, which is blacktopped now.
“It has become convenient now. Until now, because of dust pollution, we had to clean three to four times in a day and not many people came by,” said Mongali Rai in Sarpang.
“It is convenient now because we can at least run shops to pay house rents,” added Hari Maya Neopani.
The four-kilometre internal road network was blacktopped last month with fund support from the Asian Development Bank.
