Bhutanese and foreigners now have a choice to fly out to Nepal or fly into the country from Nepal.
Buddha Air- Nepal’s leading domestic airline finally started its service with its maiden flight flying in at the Paro airport yesterday morning. As the 18 seater aircraft landed at the Paro airport this morning, the officials flying in its first maiden flight from Nepal were received by the Civil Aviation officials.
To start with- Buddha Air will operate four flights a week. Talking about rates the Managing Director of Buddha Air told BBS that they will operate between 60 to 100 US dollars for a one way ticket to Katmandu and otherwise.
Passengers who book their flights way in advance will be charged a special fare of 60 US Dollars excluding the taxes.
The coming of the new air service means competition for the Druk Air. Druk Air officials were however not available to comment on this.
Buddha Air in the meantime plans to increase its frequencies depending on the market in the future.
Buddha Air officials are optimistic that they will be able to help achieve Bhutan’s target of generating at least 100,000 tourists by 2012 with the new air service.
