Travellers going abroad will no longer have to go to banks for foreign currency exchange services. They can avail themselves of the service from Paro International airport. In addition to the Bank of Bhutan’s foreign currency exchange counter, the Bhutan National Bank has also launched a counter at the airport yesterday.
With the launch of a BNB counter, some of the travelers are expecting better service delivery.
“Nowadays, there are many Bhutanese travelling to India, Bangkok and many other countries. Such kind of services are convenient and now, BNB has also set up a counter here. With two counters here, it is convenient for the passengers,” said a traveller, Sonam Tobgay Dorji.
Thinley Choden, another traveller said “yesterday, I went to the bank and they told me to visit the counter. Earlier, with only one counter catering services to many people, we have to wait in a long queue and it takes time. But with the new BNB counter, it is convenient. In the past, we only had a BOB counter.”
The counter will issue 3,000 US dollars to a Bhutanese in a year as Annual Travel Scheme. However, the counter will issue only 1000 dollars in cash and the remaining 2000 dollars will be provided through cards. Besides the currency exchange facility, the bank has installed an Automated Teller Machine (ATM).
