With the blacktopping works of the Sergithang-Burichhu farm road in Tsirang complete, residents of Sergithang and its nearby gewogs now enjoy a smooth ride. The blacktopping of the 9.4-kilometre road has also shortened the travel time for the people. Moreover, the road serves as an alternate route for people travelling to Thimphu.
From Sergithang Gewog, it now takes only about 20 minutes to reach Burichhu, which is along the Tsirang-Wangdue highway.
Earlier, it takes almost an hour especially during summer as the road was bumpy along some stretches.
“The blacktopped road has benefitted commuters. We can reach Thimphu within a few hours and even Phuentshogling within nine to ten hours,” said Shri Prasad, a resident.
“It is difficult for us to get vehicles due to the distance. But now, the blacktopped road has benefitted the farmers who transport the farm produces to Thimphu,” said Tandin Dorji, another resident.
The blacktopping works were completed in mid of last month. The works were supposed to be completed in June, last year but it was delayed due to the monsoon, last year.
The road was constructed in 2016 as a farm road. The government funded the blacktopping works following a proposal from the Tsirang district and Sergithang gewog administrations.
