A team of foresters from Trongsa Range Office and Bumthang Forest Division discovered a new orchid species.
Although the species was collected in September last year, it was concluded as new worldwide only this year. It is currently found in Trongsa and Lhuentse. The new species is named as ℎ which is derived from the place of its origin.
It has yellow with reddish-maroon spotted flowers and is found growing on trees. The identity of the plant was not known till date.
As per the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List categories and criteria, the species is endangered in the country.
As of now, Bhutan has recorded 37 different species of orchid.
