Bhutan Council for School Examinations and Assessment (BCSEA) declared the results for the 2019 Bhutan Higher Secondary Education Certificate (BHSEC) Examination today. From a total of 11,061 students who appeared the exam, 10,126 passed the examination.
Scoring 90.50 per cent, Tandeen Wangmo from Ugyen Academy topped the Science stream. Angie Yoedzer with 89.50 per cent from Sherubling Central school and Basu Dev Upadhya with 89 per cent from Samtse Higher Secondary school came in second and third respectively.
Esha Sharma with 87.75 per cent, Kinley Bidha with 87.50 per cent and Rigzin Bimlha with 85.75 per cent all from Ugyen Academy topped the commerce stream.
In the arts stream, Kinley Namgyel from Motithang Higher Secondary school came first with 86 per cent followed by Tshering Yangden from Ugyen Academy with 84 per cent. The third position is a tie between Kelzang Choden from Chukha Central school and Bir Man Ghishing from Ugyen Academy with 83.50 per cent.
In the Language and Culture Studies, Tenzin Yangzom from Taktse Central school topped the exam with 75.75 per cent. Karma Wangchuk with 75.25 per cent from Desi High School in Thimphu and Kezang Dawa with 74.50 per cent from the Language and Culture Institute in Thimphu came second and third respectively.
The overall pass percentage is 91.55 per cent, an increase of 3.56 per cent compared to the previous year’s pass percentage of 87.99 per cent.
The students will be competing for the 179 ex-country scholarship slots that the Department of Adult and Higher Education is offering. Besides, the colleges under the Royal University of Bhutan will be taking in 2399 students which also include the slot for the self-financed students.
