Poor road conditions continue to plague Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde. Among the thromde’s six constituencies, roads in and around Samdrup Jongkhar Toed Constituency are in desperate need of repairs at the earliest.
The five-kilometre roads, which spread across Samdrup Jongkhar Toed Constituency, are in a pitiable state. The already bad roads are battered and bruised by the recent rainfall.
Wide and deep water-clogged potholes are omnipresent along the stretches. Many residents frequent the roads since they serve as the pivotal connectivity to many public offices like the district administration, trade office, automobile works and a school.
However, residents are irked by the terrible condition of the roads, which have persisted for years.
“Road is really in bad condition here at Toed constituency. During the monsoon season, it gets muddy and during Sunny days, the road becomes muddy, causing inconveniences to the public,” complains one of the residents, Thekcho Nima.
Other residents shared similar complaints.
“The road is filled with big potholes, making travelling a nerve-racking ordeal. The road leading to Samdrup Jongkhar Primary School is also in bad condition,” another resident, Kunzang Jambay describes the condition of the road.
However, Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde has plans to blacktop the less than a kilometre of stretch leading to the district administration this winter since the construction of water and sewerage distribution channels is almost complete along that route.
But thromde has no immediate plans to rehabilitate other roads en route the trade office and automobile workshops since water and sewerage distribution works are still underway.
These works will be complete by November next year.
Looks like it will be an ordeal to use the roads in Samdrup Jongkhar Toed Constituency unless water and sewerage distribution works are complete.
Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde has more than 10,000 residents.
